M14.4 Blog: Think About It - Website Exploration
With our most recent disaster of wildfires I decided to explore the website for information regarding this subject. I pleased to find a wide rage detailed information. It provided the following content regarding wildfires:
Background
Resources: Preparedness and Mitigation
Resources: Health Impacts of Wildfire
Resources: Environmental Health Impacts
Resources: Psychosocial
Resources: Health Systems Impact
Resources: Evacuation and Sheltering
Sacramento Reserve Medical Corps is similar to DHV of Sacramento. Similar to DHV, SRMC is made up of licensed healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, mental health professionals, dentists, pharmacists, veterinarians, physical therapists and more.

Hi Claudia,
ReplyDeleteConsidering the recent wildfires that we experienced in the region, I also looked into the wildfire section. I was also pleased to discover the multiple resources available, particularly in regards to psychosocial health. I may have had to do a bit more digging, but I wonder if the website also has information on those affected by the wildfire smoke. I spent most of my time looking at resources to preserve emotional well-being, but considering I was highly affected by the smoke in the region, I'm wondering what support may be available. I have very poor ventilation in my household, so I had to purchase an air purifier. I want to do some digging to find out whether I can be reimbursed for it.
In regards to the Disaster Healthcare Volunteers, I did not find something similar in SF specific to individuals who are not healthcare providers (physicians, etc.). In looking at the Sacramento branch, did you find any particular volunteer opportunity that stood out to you?
Hi Claudia! Thanks for looking at the wild fires. We also had many wildfires out here in LA county and hope that we can look at those parts of what associations can do to help people. I think it is highly important for us to help those in need who are not aware of natural disasters and how to protect themselves from it.
