Urea formaldehyde foam insulation (UFFI) is injected as a mixture of urea formaldehyde resin, an acidic foaming agent, and a propellant, such as air. It was commonly used in existing houses by injecting the foam into areas, such as behind walls, where it was impractical to provide conventional insulation. UFFI has been suggested as a causal agent in a variety of health problems, including upper and lower respiratory tract and gastrointestinal tract symptoms, asthma and chronic bronchitis, dermatitis, psychological symptoms (including insomnia and depression), nasal cancer and lymphoma.

Sodium Hydroxide commonly known as our household bleach is a hazardous product that should be handled with caution. Many of its adverse associated health effects from its exposure are from direct skin contact, inhalation or ingestion. Common health effects include irritation of skin, eyes, lungs and lightheadedness; and is linked to triggering or worsening symptoms of asthma.

  1. I appreciate the definition you have provided Claudia for UFFI. I think it is highly important to know about what is in the agents and how we can be safe around these products, especially bleach. It is dangerous to be around and I would hope we take the proper precautions to protect ourselves.
